Chaotic Week, but I Cleaned my Fridge
A Whirlwind Friday at the Water Park
As Friday arrived, I found myself wondering where the week had gone. With four kids loaded in the car, I decided to embrace the moment and spend four to five hours soaking up the sun at our local water park. The kids behaved well, but I quickly learned a few valuable lessons. First, it’s essential to bring your own snacks and, if necessary, claim food allergies. Most importantly, I realized the significance of being the mom who arrives early to stand in line. Securing those free chairs in the shade right away can make all the difference. Without that shade, you risk coming home with painfully sunburned thighs, a lesson I won’t soon forget. I now have what I’d call lobster thighs.
Family Chaos and Marital Compromise
Between the kids’ activities and endless errands, I often felt like a chicken running around with its head cut off. On top of that, we faced a classic marital disagreement both of us as stubborn as ever, neither willing to back down. Eventually, someone has to let go, like a game of tug-of-war where dropping the rope means one person loses and the other falls, but in the end, everyone gets some sort of satisfaction. Fortunately, we managed to reconcile with a family grilling session, perhaps a bit too much beer and wine, and a fun-filled event by the pool. The night was hilarious, though I definitely didn’t feel my best the following day. Nevertheless, I pushed through, cleaned the house, took one kid to math camp, and kept moving forward.
Preparing for What’s Next
Looking ahead to next week, I’m gearing up for an even busier schedule, balancing my usual mom duties with preparations for my first public speaking event, set for the third week of June. True to my nature, I’ve already drafted my outline. Now, it’s time to record myself, wander around the house practicing, and pretend I’m auditioning for a major film role. While nerves are inevitable, they stem from my deep care for the message I’ll be sharing. My goal is to provide real-life stories and support people dealing with trauma, all while helping them take a well-deserved personal break thanks to the support of their Fortune 500 employer.
Finding Rest Amidst the Chaos
This week has been such a blur that I can hardly recall what happened. Despite the madness, I try not to take my blessings for granted. Being busy and frazzled can easily put anyone in a whirlwind mood, like an Oklahoma tornado. So how do we rest, recover, or recuperate after weeks like these? The answer is personal and depends on what each of us can handle while still being responsible. I help people in many ways, and each case is unique. For some, it’s a couple of drinks or joining the 405 club. For others, it’s a hobby or simply a staring contest with the wall. We all have different limits, and acknowledging those boundaries is crucial. Ultimately, taking time for some rest and relaxation—even if it’s just a small, solitary moment—is important when life gets overwhelming.
Refrigerator Glory
And yes, I deep cleaned my fridge today, and let me tell you, opening it now brings a joy rivaled only by seeing my kids wipe their own faces unprompted. Of course, I’m fully aware that by tomorrow, it’ll be back to its natural habitat: leftovers stacked precariously, mystery Tupperware growing its own zip code, and at least one rogue juice box hiding in the back. Still, I’m soaking in this fleeting moment of fridge perfection like it’s a five-star vacation, because we all know it won’t last! Whatever, I’m enjoying it today.
