When Life Gets Weird, Show Up Anyway

Embracing the Unexpected

Some days don’t unfold the way you expect. They wobble and tilt, tossing strange curveballs that make you pause and wonder, “What on earth is happening today and what a week this has been?”

Today was one of those days…or week for me, filled with unusual messages, unexpected encounters, and a level of noise that felt overwhelming. It was the kind of day that made me want to retreat into my hoodie and disappear for a while.

Yet, amid all that weirdness, something beautiful happened.

A Moment of Connection

While at the gym, a woman recognized me, not for my appearance or anything flashy, but because she had read Battles to Breakthrough.

She approached with a warm expression, wrapped her arms around me, and asked, “Can I hug you?” She told me my book was fantastic.

In that moment, the noise faded, the weirdness diminished, and the entire day shifted.

The Power of Showing Up

It’s remarkable how a sincere connection can restore your balance. A single hug can remind you why you keep showing up, even when life feels off-balance and strange.

I don’t always know what to write. I don’t always feel steady or inspirational. But I do know this:

Even on the weird days, goodness remains. Even when life is loud, there are quiet reminders that you’re on the right path. Even when you’re tired, something you created is strengthening someone else, even on a day you almost didn’t show up.

I’ve managed two weeks straight with three days in a row of CrossFit, and as someone with MS, I’m definitely showing up. Today, before picking up my child from middle school, I had to lie down on the couch for a while. My abs hurt so much it felt more like a bar fight than a workout routine.

Choosing What Matters

Tonight, I’m choosing to focus on the hug, not the noise. On the connection, not the chaos. On the reminder that what we do matters, even on days when we don’t feel particularly put together.

If your day felt strange too, you’re not alone. We’re still here, still showing up, still moving forward, one imperfect, honest step at a time.
