A Refreshing Reset and Renewed Strength

Taking a Mental Health Day

Yesterday, I decided to prioritize my well-being by taking a mental health day. It was just me and my laser engraver, spending time making random charcuterie boards for fun. I enjoyed some wine, stayed in my pajamas, and allowed myself to relax without worrying about chores. The only "work" I did was running one of my robot vacuums and lighting a candle, which helped the house look and smell clean, a little mom trick I picked up. The illusion of tidiness is sometimes enough, and as long as it appears that something was accomplished, no one has to know otherwise!

Challenging Myself at CrossFit

Today, I decided to punish myself at another CrossFit class. At first glance, it didn’t seem too difficult, but that assumption was quickly proven wrong. I have relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (MS), not the primary progressive type. So, when I do make it to the gym, which only happens a couple of times each week, I really feel the effects that night and throughout the next day. Despite the physical challenge and lingering discomfort, I genuinely believe that fitness communities like CrossFit provide essential benefits for my mental, physical, and spiritual well-being. The people there are wonderful, and the instructors add humor and warmth to every session. This gym community has become a bright spot in my life.

I took about five years away from CrossFit while I was busy serving in the military worrying too much about the wrong things and prioritizing the wrong things in my life. Although I’m not as strong as I once was, I know that even a little bit of pain is worth the much greater light it brings into my life now. And to all those who “show up” that is enough and it means your soul has grit.

Everyday Life and a Bit of Humor

On a lighter note, I recently discovered that my younger boys were pretending to brush their teeth. I became suspicious when I noticed their toothbrushes were as dry as the Arizona desert, clearly, a little detective work goes a long way in parenting!

A Message of Encouragement

Enough about me. I hope everyone has a fantastic week ahead. Remember, you are capable of accomplishing anything you can convince yourself to do. I truly believe that. Success won’t come easily, life rarely is easy, but it is always possible. Why? Because I say so, just a little encouragement and a laugh to keep us going!
