Why I Became Addicted to Deployments
The Appeal of Deployment Life…
Who doesn’t want their meals served hot and ready, or only having to do their own laundry? The simplicity is enticing: no dirty dishes, no cooking dinner, and no chores. It’s just pure, uncomplicated daily living focused on the mission or whatever task is set before you. The camaraderie is hard to beat, and the fact that you only need to take care of yourself is liberating.
Transitioning Back to Everyday Life…
However, stepping away from deployment life means leaving behind that erased routine and entering a space filled with endless possibilities and unknowns. At some point, we must relearn and manage the everyday responsibilities we left behind. It’s not easy figuring out daily living all over again can be challenging. Imagine forgetting how to cook, then suddenly having to relearn by getting smacked in the face with a spatula while grilling. The adjustment is real, and it requires patience and effort to regain that balance.
